Self-Awareness: Have you taken the time to listen to your thoughts?
What is really the point of self-awareness? When we quiet our minds and look inward we start to listen to our thoughts. Listening to our thoughts makes us the Observer of the life we are creating in our mind. When we become the Observer we are able to see our life from different point of view.
Becoming the Observer allows us to see situations with more options. When we are observing thought, we are detached from feelings and emotions, therefore we are able to make decisions based on conscious awareness and not the emotional self.
This is how we become in control of the life we create for ourselves. Good and bad.
Looking inward is the healthiest way to understand who you are, getting to know you, and become a friend to yourself. Inside us lie all the answers already; we just need to look inward and see.
The natural neglect of self-awareness
It is natural for us to look outward because that’s what we do with open eyes. We are so used to looking outward we don’t realize how distracted and away from our true selves we become. Overcoming this tendency to gaze outwards is one of the first steps to attaining self-awareness.
With our eyes open we look around and compare ourselves to everything and everyone. Then we spend time judging and criticizing ourselves, because we think we are inferior. So, we start wanting to be like someone else, wanting to look like someone else, behave like someone other than us. Looking outside of us for happiness, for fulfillment, acceptance, and validation. According to whom? Who decided that? Why?
We reach outside of ourselves to others to make us happy. Then when we are not acknowledge or accepted by others we become sad and feel unworthy. Wasting time on what we now think others think of us not realizing they have their own emotions, feelings and weaknesses. We get caught up in this vicious cycle of thought that we have created ourselves now to be true.
Taking control through self-awareness
No one can control our thought; we are the only ones who can. Just like we have no control over anyone else’s thought.
What we choose to spend time thinking about is a choice. We can spend time thinking how good we are or we can spend time thinking how bad we are. It is up to us to decide what we choose to think about.
Happiness, acceptance, joy, love is already within us, just waiting to get recognized by ourselves. Sometimes people enter our lives and these emotions become magnified so we start to attach ourselves to this person for making us feel loved. But the truth is, no-one makes us feel a certain way; we are the ones who create this feeling from thought.
Certain people appear in our lives to bring forth the essence of who we truly are already. Happiness, Love and Joy is already who you are; sometimes we are not able to see it on our own until we experience it with the help of another.
Devoting 10 minutes every day to sit and listen to your thoughts will make a huge difference.
How valuable is your life to you? Isn’t 10 minutes a day the least we can do for ourselves? Now, we all CAN take the time to listen to ourselves!
Take a moment right now to go inward. Close your eyes, take three deep breaths, and just allow and observe your thoughts. Write them down on a piece of paper.
What are you thinking about?
